The Uncut Version

Call me Gi, (not my real name). I am 28 this year (2010) currently suffering from Male
Pattern Baldness (MPB), hair fall, thinning hair or whatever you call. Mainly I started to browse the Internet for cure and definitely try out all sorts of products to gain my hair back. I am not really sure which stage it is but it seems to be critical. Probably before 30, all my hair on my crown is gone which most people call it “The Mediterranean.”

What is Male Pattern Baldness ?

There are many sources of information out there and if you are one of the victims currently with this condition, I bet you likely understand what I am talking about here.
Briefly, here I some information I collate regarding Male Pattern Baldness.

Most men who experience hair loss have a hereditary condition called androgenic alopecia, says Neil Sadick, M.D., Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology at Cornell University Medical College. These men have increased levels of a hormone known as 5(alpha)-reductase, which transforms testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

The DHT, in turn, causes follicles to sprout shorter, finer hairs, before eventually dying out. It also causes the growth phases of hair follicles to become shorter, and the other phases to be longer.

Also, it doesn't matter which side of the family you inherited the condition from; chances for men and women to carry this condition in their genes are very high. However, your chances increase by 50% if you have an immediate family member who is balding. Sometimes, it's just inevitable.

What causes baldness? It’s a question that has riddled man for thousands of years. In Ancient Rome, they believed baldness was caused by lack of acidity, which is probably why animal urine was regarded as a pre-eminent hair loss remedy.  And up until about 50 years ago, electric shock treatments were used in the belief that the flow of blood, or lack thereof, was responsible for hair loss. The truth is…you really should be blaming your parents. (And not just your mom either.)

Baldness is caused by a mixture of genetics and hormones that we have very little control of. Though scientists are pretty close to identifying the genes responsible for baldness, (there’s more than one), the actual process of baldness is still quite a mystery. They are pretty sure that it is one particularly enzyme’s overzealous conversion of testosterone into (DHT) or dihydrotestosterone, an important part of male fetus development that causes baldness.
For some reason, science still isn’t sure why, these high levels of DHT react in a negative way with hair on the scalp, causing small hair follicles that ordinarily would be regenerating new hairs every 2-6 years, to shrink and render them useless to the creation of new hair. Again for some reason, and scientists don’t know about this one either, the hair on the sides of the head do not react the same way to DHT, leading to that “monk look” so common in men suffering from baldness.

I started to use all the above mentioned products since I am about to finish my college life in 2008. Back then, I never count how much I’ve spent on all this products but definitely worth more than RM1000 (USD$ 310). I tried products from different brands, countries whichever is possible to find a solution to end hair thinning and scalp problems.

My hair fall problem started when near end of year 2007 (Oct). My sister was the first person who highlighted me regarding my hair problems. It was a mild condition initially and due to my black thick hair, I don’t really care much about it. For some reasons, my hair scalp was still in good condition as it is able to grow hair quite fast although my hair still falls away rapidly.

In whole year 2008, things start to heat up a little. I noticed most of my hair fall away faster and faster. This might due to aging as our body immune system, testosterone levels, hormones, vitamins and minerals are depreciating. Somehow I don’t really care much as I only 26 years old. I spin my life as usual like most of my friends. Hunt for great food, sleep late, have fun, enjoy, travel, play around and I don’t pay really much attention to my hair fall condition until significantly bald patches become visible.

However I am still able to cover with some hair from the side and back but it require a certain length of hair to do so. One of the most disastrous year was between 2009-2010. The condition of my hair and scalp was really bad and I have no idea what to do. I was in stress, loaded with pressure and nearly depress. Looks like end of the world to me where no one can really understand my problem. I surf the Internet day and night, read health magazines like Men’s Health, look for ideas from newspaper or simply any article, which provide a miracle cure.

My sister is an expert in photos and images editing. I gave her pic of me and she tried to edit my looks with a total bald clean shave face. Well, definitely I don’t look like Vin Diesel, Stone cold Steve Austin or Bruce Willis. It somehow just portray my looks where all I can say, I look like a fierce monk who can’t really bless anyone. Wow, really ain’t that cool and with my baby face look, it doesn’t seems right to me which all I can say is, “I can’t believe this is happening.”

I begin to look for cure and treatments. The Internet is one of the best source of information. Is fast, direct, informative, out dated and up to date as well, and is always confusing. I have read a junk of stories about how many unhappy clients are “scammed” by hair popular and reputable hair centre.

Some claimed they work and majority claimed it just failed. I will be very direct at this point as those hair centres we often heard. A very few good example here, Yun Nam hair care, Beijing 101, Swenson, Tricho Haircare, Jean Yip (hair treatment) and the list goes on...

In MY OPINION,

I won’t say they are scammed or they simply don’t work. Different people have different hair problem based on the cause. Some hair-thinning problems are mainly related to oily scalp, inheritance, critical stress, seriously bad diet, dihythestorone (DHT) and more. Different hair problems are caused by different reasons and factors. Just like your financial problem, it could be due to high expenses, loan shark debts, bank debts, personal debts, long term medication fees, credit cards and so on. Hence it all lead to same problem which is still financial problem.

The same goes to your hair problem. 9 out of 10 people who share their stories behind what happened once they step in hair treatment centre, is always the same. The staffs there are very pushy, aggressive in persuading you to sign up a course or package and the price is really hefty. It could vary from RM3000-RM12000 or more. The question here, DOES IT REALLY WORK ????

Some say yes, some say no and some say they are scam. I will relatively put it this way. If someone step up and offer me a guarantee result in 3 months (or money back guarantee) for just RM5000, I will go for it. Why ? Is guaranteed result or your money back. However, it only works on certain hair problem that cause by oily scalp, stress and bad diet. It will never works on inheritance or DHT cause. As a matter fact, is not for everyone but those hair centre are really lucky as most people willing to spend the money and put some hope on it. They don’t care it works or not but is better than not doing anything and sitting there waiting for the day of your ‘Crowning’ arrive.

Here are the few real life contributed stories I managed to share with everyone.

We can see every now and then people post in forums, blogs, website and nearly anywhere over the internet about how all these hair centre turnout to be bogus, scam and not really as good as they claimed. My conclusion, different people have different opinion and don’t put your hope on 1 solution but most important.. ”Don’t give up a battle before you start to fight”.

Now, I am not here to judge or criticise any products or hair centre but to share my journey with all of you out there. Life is not like Final Fantasy or Legend of Dragoon. Sometime even a few hair problems are able to mess up our life. I’ve read cases where some places don’t hire people for work because they are bald. A good example here is hotels (not all) and hair Products Company. A few strains of hair on your head definitely make you look younger and better. Majority of people who goes bold looks slightly older especially with a pair of glasses on it and for this case, I highly recommend those with glasses change to lenses and laser it !

I started my working life in 2009 and once I make a couple of bucks, I will grab some hair care products from store and pharmacies. Well, till today doesn’t seem to work on me. Sometimes it does, sometimes it don’t. I even bought a few stuffs over the Internet, as some products are not available in my country. My hair just keep falling and falling day after day. As each day pass by I learned more and more about the hair, which I always thought I already understand much of it. I was wrong, is never too much to know and gather more information. Some information may be accurate and some are irrelevant which we always thought is what we are looking for.

After some time, I begin to look things different. After 2 years battling with my hair fall condition, I decided put it to a stop and start to crack my brain. I surf the Internet again hope to look for more distinctive answer. At the same time I refuse to give up my body workout because it keeps me motivated everyday. One day, I came across a website and I read about unrevealed information which is totally different from other website.

Here is the Link

I don’t really put a 100% hope on the information provided. Somehow, I just try my best to pull myself back & wish this is better than the rest.

Once I finished the whole page, I start to browse for products, which are related and recommended. I swipe my card and now they are here.  I decided to sail a new journey and share my experience with all of you. Whether the outcome is positive or negative, I will still post it here. Is going to be a countdown programme and Yes, I customized my own products to battle with my hair condition. I am 100% not sure it will work or not. I just won’t give up and I will move on….

Here are all the products I bought. I will refill again once is out and I will post it everytime I refill.

I grab all my products from this place.

Anyway, I choose the products below carefully and here is the reason why.

1.       Navitas Natural Maca Powder from Peru ( to balance hormones)
2.       J.R Ligettes Old Fashioned Soap Bar Hair Shampoo ( a washing shampoo)
3.       Alive! Energizer, Multivitamins & Mineral (vitamins for healthy body and hair)
